Statements of Understanding About the Shiatsu Certification Program

Shiatsu Therapy Certification/Licensing
Certified Practitioner status with AOBTA is the appropriate credential for the practice of Asian Bodywork in Illinois, as specified by the Illinois Massage Licensing Act. Graduates of Zen Shiatsu Chicago are immediately eligible for Certified Practitioner status.

Asian Bodywork and Massage licensing is handled differently in each state. Frequently, in states without a licensing requirement, the practice of Asian Bodywork/Massage is unregulated, or regulated through the business licensing bureaus or other licensing bureaus of municipalities. General state and/or local licensing requirements for Asian Bodywork/Massage requires that an applicant possess good moral character and to report any prior criminal convictions. Any student or graduate who has a prior criminal conviction may experience limitations and/or denial of professional licensure or employment opportunities due to previous criminal records.

Zen Shiatsu Chicago encourages potential students to investigate the details of licensure laws in the state(s) and/or municipalities where they would like to practice. Admission specialists can provide information on where and how to obtain such licensure information.
